    You can turn the finial to any shape you find pleasing.  Unfortunately, none of the photos I took of the turning of this one were usable due to camera operator error so the photos of the finished piece will have to suffice.  I decided to turn a miniature Christmas tree as the centerpiece for this one.  The "trunk" of the tree was turned at 1/4" diameter and long enough that there will still be some exposed when the end is bottomed out in the hole in the finial.

     The only difference in turning the ornament body was to bore a 3/8" diameter hole up through the bottom into the cavity.
