On the bowl bottom I pared off the stub that remained from parting off, found the centre and used an awl to make a dimple for the tail centre to register in. I also folded the shop towel that I had used to buff the bowl interior into quarters to act as extra padding between the jam chuck and the bowl.

I slipped the bowl over the jam chuck, pinching the towel into place, then brought up the tailstock and put a bit of pressure against the bowl to hold it in place.
