Once the shaping was complete I locked the headstock spindle with the long grain edge on top and used a block plane to plane away the chipped out edge. On this one that left one foot a bit wider than the others because the chip out was so deep. I then sanded the bottom of the piece. I was able to power sand the bottom of the candle cup but the underside of the legs is definitely a hand sanding operation.

These aren’t nearly as nice as Horst’s walnut piece, but they were kind of fun to do.
